Videographers beware of prospects who rip off your storyboard
Let's say you are a videographer. Ordinarily you send your storyboard to your prospect, hoping they will approve it and contract you to produce the video.
The problem is when the prospect tells you they don’t approve of your creative plans (“we are heading in a different direction”), only to hand your storyboard to someone else to produce. Worst of all, you discover the video you had conceptualised available on YouTube, Instagram or TikTok, without any compensation paid to you.
When you challenge the prospect, they claim the final product is vastly different to your version, even though any reasonable observer can see it looks strikingly similar.
Now with PitchMark® Ideas.Exchange you PitchMark® your storyboard. You send it to the prospect, along with the PitchMark® certificate, to put them on notice that you reserve all rights to your work.
Now they have a choice: either they contract you to produce the video and pay you an agreed production fee. Or they pay you a license fee for your storyboard, so you get paid for your concepts even if they engage someone else for the project.
You still might not like them finding someone else to execute on your work but at least you get paid for your creativity, your time and your experience – which you didn’t get before. Besides, now you don’t have all the work associated with the execution of the project.
Best of all, you get paid by credit card straight away when you transfer the certificate to the client.
