How do I get paid for ideas through PitchMark®?

Creators can monetise their pitches by selling them the rights to an idea even if they are not hired for the full production. This feature transforms the traditional "all or nothing" pitch into a more flexible commercial transaction.

Creators can use this feature to generate revenue in several ways:

  • Offering clients a choice: Instead of requiring a client to pay for a full campaign or project—which might cost tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars—a creator can offer a licensing fee for just the idea itself. This fee is typically a fraction of the total production cost.
  • Monetising conceptual work: If a client loves an idea but prefers to use an in-house team or a cheaper production partner, they can license the idea in good conscience. This allows the creator to be compensated for their creative input without having to perform the actual labour of execution.
  • Setting custom terms: Creators have the autonomy to set their own price and define specific licensing conditions, such as the duration of use or geographical limits. These terms are captured on the certificate, which serves as a record of the transaction.
  • Recouping pitch fees: Large agencies that traditionally struggle with whether to charge pitch fees for their time can use the licensing model as a way to ensure they are compensated for their intellectual property if the prospect declines the full production contract.
  • Securing faster payment: For roles like freelance writing, licensing can lead to quicker compensation. Instead of waiting months for an article to be researched, written, and published, a writer can be paid at the point the right to publish the story is transferred to an editor.
  • Receiving direct payments: Even though transactions take place on the block chain, they are settled via credit card on the platform rather than through cryptocurrency. This ensures creators have immediate access to funds.

This system creates a win-win scenario where the creator gets paid for their ideas and give permission to the client to use that idea with a vendor of their choice while maintaining a clear conscience.
